The Certificate in Spanish offers certification of general language skills, directly applicable in the workforce, that prepare students to study and work in multi-lingual environments.

In modern languages students earn a language certificate as evidence that they can communicate in the target language when interacting with others to meet basic practical needs related to everyday life and can demonstrate intercultural competence in a dynamically changing world.

In ancient languages students earn a language certificate as evidence that they can discuss authentic matters of the target language on a variety of topics and demonstrate intercultural competence as a bridge between the ancient and modern worlds.

Learning Outcomes

  • Presentational: Students will be able to explain information, concepts, and viewpoints in spoken and written language.
  • Cultural: Students will be able to use interlinguistic knowledge and intercultural competence to interact with people from other cultures on topics relating to basic everyday needs.
  • Interpretive: Students will be able to analyze the main ideas and some details from input that is heard, read, or viewed on basic everyday topics from authentic resources.
