Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s: Special Education with specialization in Secondary Transition


Criteria and Application Requirements

Students interested in pursuing the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Education to Master of Education (MEd) in Special Education with a Specialization in Secondary Transition must:

  1. Be pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd) Intervention Specialist;
  2. By the start of the student’s Accelerated status, have earned 90 credit hours and an overall BGSU GPA of at least 3.0;
  3. Complete Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Program Application;
  4. Submit transcripts from all universities attended;
  5. Submit a letter of recommendation from a full-time BGSU faculty member in the School of Counseling and Special Education;
  6. Submit a 250-500 word personal statement about your career goals and interest in the master’s program.
  7. Additional Documents Required:
  8. One Letter of Recommendation from a full-time BGSU faculty member in special education
  9. Statement of Purpose - A statement should be 300-700 words in length, adhere to APA style guidelines, and demonstrate graduate-level writing skills. A strong Statement of Purpose communicates the following:
    • your motivation to pursue graduate study in your chosen field,
    • your professional goals and why you feel our program can support you in meeting these goals, and
    • your personal attributes, background, and/or experiences that have prepared you for success as a graduate student.

Once the student completes their undergraduate degree, they should complete the remaining requirements for the Master of Education in Special Education, with a specialization in Secondary Transition program.
