Systems Engineering, BSSE

Systems engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering program. Unlike traditional engineering programs, this program take a holistic approach toward designing and improving complex systems, such as those found within manufacturing, logistics, retail services, and healthcare. To optimally prepare students for professionals in this field, this program emphasizes engineering design, systems integration, modeling, problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills. Careers in this field are in demand and highly compensated.

Program Educational Objectives

Within five years after graduation, the graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering program at Bowling Green State University will have demonstrated their ability to:

  • PEO 1: Successfully practice systems engineering in a private or public sectors by solving real-world challenges;
  • PEO 2: Collaborate with others as leaders or members of multi-disciplinary teams to create a culture of engagement, strong ethics, and diversity within the organizations;
  • PEO 3: Pursue life-long learning successive advancement within their industries and/or graduate level education.

Designated courses in Humanities and the Arts and the Social and Behavioral Sciences domains may be used to fulfill both the BGP requirement and one of the following university requirements:

Notes:

Students must take at least 30 hours of natural science and math/ stat courses to meet ABET requirements.

Due to the cooperative education requirement, in order to complete this program in four years, it is necessary for the student to either enroll in co-op hours or coursework during the summer as well as during the academic year. If the student is not able to do so, this program may take more than four years to complete.

In addition to completing all requirements, students are responsible for:

Program Core Courses

  1. Must meet prerequisite requirements before taking SYE core courses.
  2. At least one cooperative education experience - TECH 2890  or TECH 3890  must be taken.
  3. Grade of “C” or better in all SYE core courses are required.

Co-op

All students in the College are required to complete 1 co-op, depending on your major. THIS IS A COURSE. It carries credit and is graded. It is full time (40 hrs/week) for the entire semester or part-time (20 hrs/week) for two consecutive semesters, paid and must be directly related to your major. All students MUST complete the Co-op Orientation available in Canvas.
