Introduction

The Management and Technology major is designed for persons with a technical and/or applied associate degree or equivalence who are employed in business, industry, education, healthcare, social services, or military service and wish to continue their education and/or prepare for advancement. The degree combines BG Perspective requirements with a core curriculum that includes a technical and/or applied cognate and courses in communication, training, and technology systems management.

This degree has twenty-seven hours (nine courses) required for the major and eight hours of required cooperative education credit. The major courses are designed to supplement the student’s work experience and technological expertise with educational experiences in a variety of study skill sets, including computer-mediated communication, technology systems in organizations, transformational learning, understanding adult learning, project and program evaluation systems, and organization and presentation of information to groups.

This degree requires a 36-hour cognate (area of technical and/or applied courses), which typically is transferred from an accredited associate degree. Combined, these technical and/or applied courses must demonstrate proficiency in a recognized technical area. In the event that there are fewer than 36 hours to complete a cognate, a College of Technology, Architecture and Applied Engineering faculty advisor will approve courses to fulfill this requirement.

The Management and Technology program is a member of the Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Consortium allowing Air Force service members to transfer their Community College applied associate degrees and obtain a Bachelor of Science in Technology bachelor degree in 60 semester hours or less.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the baccalaureate degree, students in management and technology are expected

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills through technologically mediated communications;
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving, investigative, creative, and critical thinking skills;
  • Apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  • Evaluate current leadership theory and practices so as to promote a fair, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all employees;
  • Apply the requisite skills to function effectively as a member, as well as a leader, on technical and project teams;
  • Integrate technical cognate skills and M&T program learning outcomes, to formulate or revise professional career goals and aspirations.

Admission

Admission to this program is limited to those with an earned technical and/or applied associate degree or equivalence and related work experience. Admission to the program is a two-part process: admission to BGSU, followed by admission to the College of Technology’s Management and Technology program. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the program.

Courses taken at a college or university on the quarter system will transfer as fewer hours than the BGSU equivalent. Some students must take additional courses in their degree program to earn the required 123 semester credit hours. A minimum of 40 hours of credit must be at the 3000 or 4000 level.
