The Master of Education Program in Curriculum and Teaching reflects teaching and learning in the 21st Century and is designed to enhance curricular innovation and teaching practices necessary for master teachers. Coursework, field-based experiences, and a final project or thesis are designed to develop and extend abilities to facilitate learning for students. The required twelve credit hours of electives offers choice in selecting a certificate or endorsement program from a menu of contemporary offerings or designing one’s own curricular focus. This choice equips candidates with research and skills applicable to today’s classrooms.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Master’s degree, students in the Curriculum and Teaching program are expected to be able to:
- Assess and support multiple perspectives regarding issues and trends in curriculum and instruction.
- Compile related research and adapt best practices in the classroom.
- Perform teaching that integrates theory with practice in the classroom.
- Adapt and initiate current technology in the classroom.
Admission Requirements
You have selected a degree program that includes coursework for an associated certificate: Reading Endorsement - Certificate (eCampus). If you would also like to receive the certificate on your transcript, select “Yes” above to have this certificate application added to your account. After completing this coursework, you will need to take the OAE 038 and OAE 039 test to add the endorsement to your license. Note: Students who earned an Alternative License cannot add the Reading Endorsement to their license until they convert their alternative license to the 5-year professional license.
By completing this MEd, you will earn the Master’s degree in Curriculum and Teaching and will be completing the coursework required to apply for the ODE Reading Endorsement. You also earn the BGSU Reading Endorsement Certificate and this will post to your BGSU transcript showing that you have completed 15 hours (5 courses) of reading graduate credit hours.

Submit scores from the appropriate PRAXIS II, or Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) or edTPA test. Your test score will be waived if you have an earned Master’s degree. Acceptable Praxis II and OAE scores include:

- OAE 001; OAE 002; OAE 003; OAE 004

If you do not hold an Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA), multi-age, or career technical license, you must have completed the prerequisite 12 semester credit hours of undergraduate level reading coursework before being admitted.
