This graduate certificate offers coursework in research and assessment methods related to higher education and/or student affairs and can be completed in one academic year. It is geared toward working professionals seeking to develop and enhance the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge and skills necessary for the review, development, and application of effective and rigorous assessment of learning outcomes, programs, and administrative units in postsecondary institutions.
Learning Outcomes
- Articulate paradigmatic assumptions that underlie research and assessment in higher education and/or student affairs
- Understand and interpret results from programmatic and institutional data
- Apply best practices of assessment and evaluation in postsecondary education
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to address research questions
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of research and assessment studies
- Create and implement at least one assessment project and/or research study
- Effective writing and presentation skills
Admission Requirements
Required:
- Earned bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA required.
- Recommended fields of previous study include higher education and student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, public policy, and related fields and/or experience working in administrative roles in higher education and/or student affairs.
