German for Professionals and Educators, Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in German for Professionals and Educators is designed to meet the needs of professionals working for businesses or international organizations with ties to a German-speaking country, as well as for teachers of German who require graduate credits for certification. The program offers students the opportunity to develop professional-grade German language skills, deepen their cultural knowledge of the German-speaking world, and acquire advanced intercultural competence.

Learning Outcomes

  • Attain “Advanced Low” or higher (following ACTFL) guidelines proficiency German;
  • Apply cultural knowledge of the German speaking world in personal contexts;
  • Ability to compare and assess cultural similarities and differences between North Americans and Central Europeans
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact in professional contexts with Central Europeans;
  • Ability to navigate and analyze daily life traveling and living in Europe.

Admission Requirements

  • The GRE is not required for admission to BGSU certificate program
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose (2-3 pages) outlining their experience with German, their professional goals, and the research interests they wish to pursue
  • Minimum 2.7/4.0 undergraduate grade point average (GPA)

  • Minimum 3.0 graduate cumulative grade point average
  • All requirements must be completed within six years from the end of the earliest course used to fulfill certificate requirements.
