Alternative Resident Educator Program, Certificate (online)

AREP supports Ohio teachers who have completed the Intensive Pedagogical Training Institute (IPTI) and are currently teaching in Ohio schools.

Information regarding Licensure, Endorsement, or Accreditation: The electives in phonics are only for licensure areas of Intervention Specialists in English.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an ability to continuously improve as an instructor by participating in professional inquiry, engaging in professional conversations with colleagues, and reflecting critically on your own lessons.
  2. Creates learning tasks that are challenging, aligned with learning outcomes, and engages students intellectually.
  3. Demonstrate the development and deployment of meaningful pre-assessment, formative and summative assessments, providing actionable feedback for you and your students in the learning process.
  4. Demonstrate effective instruction by actively engaging students in the learning process, utilizing culturally responsive communication with students and demonstrating flexibility and ability to meet individual student needs.

Admission Requirements

All AREP candidates must submit scores from the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) test. 

Additional Documents required:

  • Submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the appropriate PRAXIS II.  (Requirement currently waived for admission through Fall 2022).
  • Upload the Alternative Resident Educator Initial (AREI) license and attach evidence of teaching employment in Ohio under this license (you may upload this document below or on the Application Status Page after you submit your application).
