This graduate certificate requires coursework in governance, administration, law, and assessment and can be completed in one academic year. It is geared toward working professionals seeking to develop and enhance the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge and skills necessary for effective practice in administration in postsecondary institutions.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the history, philosophy, sociology and law pertaining to governance, administration, and leadership in higher education institutions and systems
- Articulate how higher education is differentiated by mission, sector, curriculum, size, and stakeholders
- Evaluate and apply organizational theories and models to create and lead effective organizations
- Understand and interpret results from programmatic and institutional data
- Apply best practices of assessment and evaluation in postsecondary education
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of research and assessment studies
- Create and implement at least one assessment project
- Effective writing and presentation skills
Admission Requirements
Required: Earned bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA required. Recommended fields of previous study include higher education and student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, public policy, and related fields and/or experience working in administrative roles in higher education and/or student affairs.
