The accounting major prepares students for paraprofessional positions in industrial, public, or governmental accounting. It is designed to provide the graduate with the theoretical and practical accounting knowledge and skills required of business personnel in today’s economy. Many of the courses in the two-year accounting degree program are applicable to the four-year bachelor’s degree in technical and applied studies (BTAS).

Learning Outcomes

Graduates with this major will possess the following knowledge and skills:

A detailed understanding of financial, managerial, cost, and tax accounting as well as electronic bookkeeping;
The ability to put into practice the theory learned in the accounting classes.

General Requirements

Students are responsible for adhering to all college and university requirements and policies as stated in the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog. Prerequisites shown below are for reference only.

English Composition and Oral Communication

WRIT 1120 is required. Based on placement scores, WRIT 1010 and/or WRIT 1110 may also be required.

Mathematics

MATH 1220 & STAT 2000 or MATH 1150 are required. Placement in MATH 1220 will be based on placement tests.

BG Perspectives Curriculum

ECON 2020 or ECON 2030 is required. Each student must complete a minimum of 9 credit hours from the following areas: Social and Behavioral Sciences ( S or SI), Humanities and Arts (H or HI), Cultural Diversity (C), or Natural Sciences (N). Course choices should be made from the list of approved courses in the BG Perspective Curriculum listed in the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog. PSYC 1010 is strongly recommended.

Courses with the prefixes of ACT and BAT WILL NOT meet the requirements for the degree programs in the College of Business

Note:

Each student must complete a sufficient number of electives to earn a minimum of 62 semester hours. At least 15 credit hours must be BGSU courses. Please check with your advisor for appropriate course selections.
