The Digital Content Creation Program offers practical and theoretical instruction for students interested in creating digital media for business and promotion. As electronic media in business and industry continues to grow, so will employment opportunities within these fields. Creative talents are exercised through extensive hands-on computer laboratory experiences and supplemented with theoretical lectures. After successful completion of the Associate of Applied Business in Digital Content Creation, students may continue their education at BGSU Firelands by pursuing the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies or on the BG campus pursuing the the Bachelor of Science in Technology with a major in Visual Communication Technology, which is granted through the College of Technology.

The Digital Content Creation program allows students the opportunity to study a number of different types of media, including web design, digital imaging, photography, and video editing. The Digital Content Creation program embraces traditional aspects of communication such as written and visual communication while at the same time providing instruction in the implementation of digital media technologies. Students learn to solve visual problems focused in the business and promotion industries. Career opportunities for graduates include job titles such as digital media producer, marketing specialist, content creator, web designer, interactive digital designer/specialist, graphic designer, videographer, photographer, and project manager.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates from the program will possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Demonstrate critical-thinking skills as they relate to solving visual technology problems;
  • Conceptualize and implement a visual technology solution in several media modes;
  • Demonstrate operational level skill ability in photography, video production, graphic design, and interactive media;
  • Research and produce an organized written rationale for using a specific medium to solve a specific visual problem;
  • Apply knowledge of industrial applications to visual communication related technologies;
  • Use critical thinking skills to solve industry-related problems on real world projects and in collaboration with other students. 

General Requirements


Students are responsible for adhering to all college and university requirements and policies as stated in the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog. Prerequisites shown below are for reference only. 

BG Perspectives Curriculum


Each student must complete one course in each of the following areas: Social and Behavioral Sciences (S or SI) (ECON 2000  or higher is required), Humanities & Arts (H or HI) (e.g. ART 1010 ) and Natural Sciences (N) (e.g. CHEM 1000  or CHEM 1090 ). Course choices should be made from the list of approved courses in the BG Perspective Curriculum  listed in the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog.

Note:


Each student must complete a sufficient number of electives to earn a minimum of 62 semester hours. At least 15 credit hours must be BGSU courses. Please check with your advisor for appropriate course selections.
