Nursing, BSN


A candidate for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree must earn a minimum of 122 semester hours of credit, either in residence or through transfer of credits, in addition to the requirements under Academic Policies. A minor is not required for graduation. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program, the student will be able to:

  1. Integrate principles of liberal education in providing care for culturally diverse populations across the lifespan.
  2. Analyze the role of the nurse leader in quality improvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and communication within an organizational structure. 
  3. Apply evidence in decision-making to improve patient outcomes.
  4. Use information and healthcare technologies to inform patients and support a safe practice environment.
  5. Examine quality healthcare through policy, social justice, and collaboration with multiple disciplines across diverse populations.
  6. Evaluate principles of health promotion and disease prevention for individuals, families, and communities.
  7. Integrate professional standards, care, values, ethics, altruism, and integrity when managing care.

Admission Requirements

  • Matriculation from the pre-nursing program to BSN program will require a separate application and pre-admission test (HESIA2).
  • Application must be submitted by May 1st of the second year.
  • All pre-requisite and supportive requirements must be completed prior to admission to the BSN program.
  • Meet the technical standards for admission.
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, a cumulative science grade point average of at least 3.0, and a “C” in all supportive courses is required for admission.
  • An admission rubric will be used to determine admission to the BSN program.
  • Components of the admission rubric include:
  • Cumulative GPA, cumulative science GPA, and HESIA2 scores.
  • The admission process is competitive, and the top 80 student admission rubric scores will be accepted into the BSN program. 

University Requirements

These courses are offered at the BGSU main campus. Each student is required to complete WRIT 1120  or demonstrate a proficiency in written expression equivalent to that attained by students who have completed the course. A penalty is imposed if WRIT 1120  is not completed within the first 60 hours. (See Academic Policies).
