Degree Track for the Registered Nurse

The RN to BSN program at Bowling Green State University is 100% online and assists the working Registered Nurse to complete the BSN degree in a flexible and convenient manner. The program can be completed in as little as three semesters or you may choose to complete the program at a slower pace. Registered nurses will build upon previous knowledge and skills to enhance their clinical judgment and leadership skills when caring for diverse patient populations across a variety of healthcare settings.

At the end of this program, the student will be able to:

1. Integrate principles of liberal education in providing care for culturally diverse populations across the lifespan.
2. Analyze the role of the nurse leader in quality improvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and communication within an organizational structure.
3. Apply evidence in decision-making to improve patient outcomes.
4. Use information and healthcare technologies to inform patients and support a safe practice environment.
5. Examine quality healthcare through policy, social justice, and collaboration with multiple disciplines across diverse populations.
6. Evaluate principles of health promotion and disease prevention for individuals, families, and communities.
7. Integrate professional standards, care, values, ethics, altruism, integrity, resilience, self well-being, and life-long learning.

Admission Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with either an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing;
• An active, valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the United States. If the applicant does not hold a current RN license, they must successfully pass the NCLEX examination prior to enrolling in NURS 3028 - Transition to Practice [or see advisor];
• Transcripts from all previously attended colleges or technical schools;
• A cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0 in all previous college or technical work;
• Complete the Online Application for admission to BGSU;
• Submit all required documents and a $45 non-refundable application fee.

Progression in RN to BSN Program

A student progresses through the RN to BSN program at Bowling Green State University in the following manner:

1. Maintain an active, valid, current, and unencumbered RN license throughout the course of study.
2. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained.
3. A grade of “C” or better must be obtained in all core RN to BSN courses.
4. Any core RN to BSN course that does not have a grade of “C” or better must be retaken to earn a grade of “C” or better.
5. A student must take NURS 3028 - Transition to Practice as the first core RN to BSN course.
6. NURS 4048 - Capstone must be taken last in the sequence of nursing courses.
7. All general education or supportive courses can be taken in conjunction with the RN to BSN core courses.
8. All courses can be taken in any order, except for NURS 3028 - Transition to Practice and NURS 4048 - Capstone.
9. All general education, supportive courses, and RN to BSN core courses must be completed before enrolling in NURS 4048 - Capstone.
10. A student may stop out of the RN to BSN program for a period of time for various reasons. However, the student should notify the Director of the RN to BSN Program of the need to stop out. A student is able to return to the RN to BSN Program at any time through a readmission process. If the curriculum has changed, the student will abide by the new curriculum pattern at time of readmission.

Degree Completion Requirements

• A minimum of 122 semester hours are required for graduation. At least 40 hours of the total 122 hours must be completed at the 3000/4000 level. At least 30 hours must be completed at BGSU to receive the RN to BSN degree. The RN to BSN program has 30 credit hours in core nursing classes.
• Students must complete 36 Bowling Green Perspective (BGP) credit hours (general education coursework).
