FILM 2620 - History of Film

Description: Survey course examining the history of aesthetic, technological and industrial developments in cinema from its origins to the present. Traces the influence of major stylistic movements and production, distribution and exhibition practices within U.S. cinema, as well as other selected national cinemas across the world. Special consideration is given to the social, cultural, political, and historical contexts within which evolutions in filmmaking technology and film aesthetics have taken place, as well as to the intersections between industrial practices and technological and aesthetic advances.
