Description: Spring. We will consider the power of music as an agent of social change and political resistance for black communities in the United States. We will explore the sounds of jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, gospel, soul, funk, hip hop and spoken word poetry, examining them through the lens of the collective struggles for citizenship, social justice and economic equality that marked the African American experience for over 200 years.
When Offered: Spring.
