SOWK 2320 - Social Welfare Institutions

Description: Fall, Spring. This is the first course of a two-part policy sequence in the social work BSW program. It examines the current structure of social welfare programs in the United States, their historical evolution, and the role of ideological, political, economic, and social forces on the development of the social welfare system in the United States. The course describes specific social welfare policies developed to support populations that social workers often serve, and address issues related in inequality and discrimination. Prerequisite: social work major and POLS 1100 , or consent of instructor. Approved for Distance Education.
