PHIL 4120 - Contemporary Continental Philosophy

Description: Alternate years. Major twentieth century movements in France and Germany, beginning with the phenomenology of Husserl, proceeding through Sartre and Heidegger and including philosophical hermeneutics, critical theory, the theory of communication and genealogies of values, with attention to such philosophers as Gadamer, Ricoeur and Derrida, Adorno, Habermas and Foucault. Prerequisite: six hours of PHIL or consent of instructor.
