Description: On demand. Male and female novelists of the Victorian period (1837-1901), including the Brontes, Eliot, Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Wilkie Collins, Hardy, and others. Emphasis on issues such as industrialization, imperialism, social/legal reform, crime and sensationalism, domesticity, and women’s changing roles, as well as on the intersections of class, race, gender, and sexuality in Victorian Britain. Prerequisite: ENG 2010.
