SOC 4040 - Sociology of Aging

Description: Understanding of sociological perspectives on how age and aging affect human behavior focusing on later life. Scientific explanations of how social, biological, and cognitive changes influence experiences of aging. Topics include living arrangements, family ties and intergenerational relations, economics, retirement, widowhood, grandparenthood, health and well-being, and social policies such as social security and Medicare. Critical focus on disparities by gender, social class, race/ethnicity. Prerequisite: SOC 1010 .
